Industrial 4G routers and 4G Modems, both two are used for wireless network data transparent transmission of industrial equipment. However, both have obvious differences, the differences between the two are distinguished mainly from the three aspects of appearance interface, usage method and application environment.
1. Appearance interface The appearance interface of the 4G router usually has a network port, providing the network port device with a wireless networking function, the data transmission can be completed when the network port device actively accesses the center. Usually 4G routers provide multiple network interfaces for WAN ports, LAN ports, or freely switchable WAN/LAN ports. The way can be customized to match the interface according to the connection method in the project.
The appearance interface of the 4G Modem generally only provides the serial interface networking way. The 4G Modem is mainly used for bi-directional transparent transmission between serial data and IP data. And what shall be done if some projects need to use the network port, but also need to use the serial port? In the current era that the technology develops rapidly, 4G routers and 4G Modem functions have been combined into a whole.
2. Usage method 4G routers can convert Ethernet and field bus communication protocols, only by setting the IP address specified by the 4G router as the gateway in the terminal device will it be OK. If the specified IP address (or the specified IP address segment) is not set, the communication function will not be realized. The main purpose of the 4G Modem is to achieve dialing, not a gateway in the true sense. For example, after the 4G modem completes the dialing process on the access terminal device, the 4G Modem can be used as a new network device, and the terminal device address can use this 4G Modem binding address.
3. Application environment 4G routers usually have VPN/APN function and private network encryption. In addition, the industrial 4G router with WIFI function is suitable for outdoor WIFI wireless signal coverage projects and similar bus WIFI, mall WIFI shared projects. The 4G Modem application has a relatively disperse transmission distance in the field terminal, and the data communication rate is high. Therefore, 4G Modem real-time performance can meet most industrial fields, usually used for data acquisition and monitoring systems, such as charging pile remote monitoring system, environmental monitoring system, real-time energy consumption monitoring, dam water conservancy project monitoring applications.
