IoT Router and Fixed Public IP Addresses: An In-depth Analysis

In the booming era of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), IoT Router play a pivotal role as the key hub connecting devices, systems, and the internet. However, for many traditional industries, there remain quite a few doubts about how to leverage this technology, especially in terms of public IP address allocation. This article aims to provide an in-depth analysis of whether IoT Router can obtain fixed public IP addresses and offer practical advice for traditional industries.

First, it's essential to clarify the concept of a public IP address. A public IP address, also known as a Public Internet Protocol Address, is a globally unique IP address assigned by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to a user or organization, enabling their devices to communicate with other devices on the internet. In contrast, a private IP address (Internal IP Address) is only used within a local area network and cannot directly access the internet.

Now, can IoT Router obtain fixed public IP addresses? This primarily depends on the type of service provided by the ISP. Typically, since 4G routers connect to the internet through a mobile network, their IP addresses are dynamically allocated by the mobile network operator. This means that every time the router connects to the network, it may obtain a different IP address. Although this dynamic allocation is flexible, it can be inconvenient for scenarios requiring a fixed IP address for specific network applications or configurations.

However, this doesn't mean that IoT Router cannot obtain fixed public IP addresses. For applications that require a fixed IP address, users can apply to the mobile network operator for a static IP address service. A static IP address is a long-term valid IP address assigned by the ISP to a user or organization, allowing them to use it continuously for a certain period. By doing so, IoT Router can obtain a fixed public IP address, meeting the needs of specific network applications or configurations.

It's worth noting that static IP addresses usually require additional fees and may require users to meet specific conditions. Furthermore, the use of static IP addresses also requires users to possess certain network management capabilities and security awareness to ensure network security and stable operation.

Apart from fixed public IP addresses, IoT Router possess numerous other powerful functions. For instance, they often employ high-performance industrial-grade communication processors and wireless modules to ensure stable operation in harsh industrial environments. Additionally, they support various network interfaces, such as RS232, Ethernet LAN/WAN, and WIFI interfaces, easily connecting serial devices, Ethernet devices, and WIFI devices, achieving data transparent transmission and routing capabilities.

Furthermore, IoT Router boast robust remote management functions, enabling users to monitor and manage the network remotely through access and management tools. This allows users to stay informed about network status and performance data, detect and address issues promptly, and ensure stable network operation.

In summary, although IoT Router typically obtain IP addresses dynamically, users can obtain fixed public IP addresses by applying for a static IP address service from a mobile network operator. Simultaneously, IoT Router possess numerous other powerful functions that can meet the diverse needs of traditional industries in IIoT applications. Therefore, traditional industries can leverage the functional and technological advantages of IoT Router to promote their digital transformation and upgrading.
