In June 2026, Wu Hequan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, divided the 55-year history of the industrial internet into four stages in a speech. One stage was 2016–2025, the traditional industrial internet era: cloud-edge-device collaboration was implemented, platforms took shape, and 5G entered factories. Starting in 2026, the traditional industrial internet began transitioning to the agentic industrial stage. Three conditions matured that year: large-model capabilities became commercially available, edge AI chips became initially usable, and leading enterprises began pilots.
