April 23, 2020 What are the Factors Related to the Ability of Industrial Routers to Penetrate the Wall?

What is the penetration capability of the industrial router? An important indicator of capability to penetrate the wall is the wireless microwave band used by industrial router. The biggest characteristic of microwave is that it is almost straight-line transmission, and the diffraction ability is very weak. Therefore, the industrial router wireless receiving device behind the obstacle will be blocked by obstacles. The wireless signal that penetrates the obstacle will gradually become a weaker signal. As for how strong the signal is, this is the capability to penetrate or directly say “through-wall capability”.

Transmitting power, receiving sensitivity (which is bidirectional), antenna gain and effective transmission distance of industrial LTE routers are directly related o the partition penetration capability, the stability of connection and the final actual transmission rate, which are the key indicators for achieving stable speed seamless connection.

The capability of the industrial LTE routers to penetrate the partition wall usually depends on the following industrial dual card router specifications:

(1) The maximum transmitting power of wireless LAN devices specified in IEEE 802.11 is 20dBm (100mW). Generally, the larger industrial router products should reach 17dBm.

(2) The current receiving sensitivity is -105dB. Through a layer of wood, the received signal will be attenuated by 4dB; Through a brick wall, the received signal will be attenuated by 8 to 15 dB; Through reinforced concrete walls, it will be attenuated by at least 15 to 30 dB. Wireless devices with a transmission sensitivity of up to 105dB have strong wall penetration; they can continuously penetrate reinforced concrete walls with a thickness of up to 1.2 meters and a total spacing of 30 meters without any relay equipment.

(3) The antenna gain of industrial router is preferably 3 to 5 dBi. The antenna gain of a typical wireless LAN device is 2dBi. According to experience, the 2dBi gain antenna signal can penetrate two walls. If there are too many rooms, there are many partition walls, it is better to use the industrial network-wide router antenna to be detachable, so as to configure a high-gain antenna, such as changing the 5dBi omnidirectional antenna. It should be pointed out that the obstacles of metal objects not only block the microwave wireless signal, but also absorb the electromagnetic energy and generate weak current drainage.

Therefore, the biggest obstacle of the wireless signal of network-wide router in the home environment is the floor with the steel mesh inside. The signal in this direction has almost no penetration. Industrial router antenna is a passive device. It will not increase power no matter how much gain the antenna is added. It will not transmit more power than the industrial router itself. USRIOT's industrial router adopts a wireless dual-cell antenna design, with two external omnidirectional high-gain antennas and an omnidirectional high-gain dual-antenna design, making the signal more powerful.
